Are negotiations being used as leverage?

The Miami Dolphins are in the midst of contract negotiations with offensive tackle Jake Long to take him with the number one overall pick. Todd McShay of ESPN.com wonders however, if the Dolphins are just using that as leverage to drive down the price of the number one pick.

Fins Narrow Search

Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post is reporting Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan will not be the Miami Dolphins quarterback of the future.  According to Thompson’s “NFL Source”, Ryan is out of the picture, as the club has begun negotiations with both Michigan tackle Jake Long and Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston.  The happiest man in South Florida, however, is newly acquired, and former Raider quarterback, Josh McCown, who will apparently not be replaced by another QB drafted number one overall for the second year in a row.

Character issues drop Talib, Manningham from multiple draft bord

Nolan Nawrocki writes on Pro Football Weekly these two players have been removed from draft boards because of character issues, specifically there admission of using marijuana in college. Who knows if they are actually off team's draft boards? Teams could take them off if they think they're getting into a Pacman Jones situation, or that the performance will outweigh the risk as it did as in Randy Moss. When about 28% of NCAA Athletes are reportedly marijuana users according to an NCAA study, look for both of these outstanding athletes to be going in the first round.

QB draft preview: Underrated Henne shows shades of Brady

Pete Prisco makes his comparison on CBS News that the likeness of the two Michigan grads is uncanny. The two wolverines are similar in which they had inconsistent seasons but ended there college carriers on stellar bowl games. Comparing the guy who had arguably the best year of any quarterback ever, and the one time second team All-Big Ten member is a stretch, but Henne has much more buzz than Brady did back in 2000, so look for him to go much earlier in the draft. What was Brady's all conference recognitions? He too was only a one time second All-Big Ten member.
