Is A-Rodg Still #2 in the NFC North?

While waiting in the wings for Brett Favre to retire then unretire then retire again, Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers was told he was the second best quarterback in the NFC North.  With the addition of Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, is Rodgers still number 2?

Favre Traded to New York

Brett Favre will stay in green -- the future Hall of Famer has officially been traded to the New York Jets in return for a fourth round pick that could become a first rounder, depending on how the Jets do this season.  Chad Pennington will likely be cut by New York.

However, the real losers in this situation will likely be the Packers.  The management of this fiasco has really upset the Packer fanbase.  Favre is next to God in Wisconsin.  Aaron Rodgers was being booed at practice on Monday and Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have made it next to impossible for the poor kid to succeed, as it would appear that Rodgers (who despite promise hasn't done a thing yet in the league) was chosen over a legend in Favre, who was willing to come back.

If Aaron Rodgers doesn't work out, Brett Favre and Brian Brohm will look good.  But, should that happen, certainly Ted Thompson, if not Mike McCarthy as well, will be looking for new jobs in January.  And for what?  Pride.  Note to Green Bay: Pride always comes before the fall.

But, on the plus side, ESPN has to be almost done covering this story...right?

Favre Faxes Reinstatement Letter

Favre

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that Brett Favre has sent in his reinstatement letter to Commissioner Roger Goodell.  The ball is now officially in Ted Thompson's court, as the Packers are left with three options: accept Favre back, trade him or release him.

Freeman Called It

CBS Sportsline's Mike Freeman (along with a whole lot of unwilling to believe Packer fans) got it right -- Brett Favre can still play...and still wants to.  Check out Freeman's article from March 6, 2008.

Since this is all anybody in the NFL media talks about these days, we'll just do a VERY quick run down of the Favre story.

  • Favre wants to play again

  • He's asked for his release from the team

  • Packers say "Yeah, right"

  • Ted Thompson announces Aaron Rodgers is still the starting quarterback of the team

  • Favre is welcome back to the team, but again, Rodgers is the starter

  • If the situation gets messy, a trade may be arranged

With training camp just a couple of weeks away, let's cross our fingers for a new story real soon...

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Rob Demovsky, the Packers/Dolphins talks involving disgruntled DE Jason Taylor could end up with Taylor playing in Ashwaubenon.

Brohm Adjusting Quickly to NFL Game

Packers' QB Brian Brohm is said to be getting a hang of things in Green Bay.  Says Brohm, "The game's faster, the defense is faster, everything's moving around a lot quicker and you get to see how the plays are supposed to be run."  While the Packers love the progress they've seen in Brohm during camp, he still "poses no threat" to starter Aaron Rodgers.
